Saami Somi is bringing Georgian-inspired cuisine to Center City via Reading Terminal Market. The country of Georgia (natively called Sakartvelo) is located on the black sea and neighbored by Armania, Azerbajan, Turkey and Russia. Quickly growing in popularity on the world stage, we are excited to introduce this Eastern European comfort food to downtown Philadelphia. Coming from two siblings who are Georgian but who grew up in Philadelphia, Saami Somi aims to straddle the lines between Georgian, Philadelphian and American food cultures as well as intergenerational food based traditions. Our shop will be focused on the popular bread items of Georgia such as khachapuri (cheeseboats and hot breads), khinkali (oversized dumplings) and Supra bites (popular bites at the famous Georgian Supra feast). In addition to prepared foods, Saami Somi offers a variety of pantry items like ajika, tkemali, fresh baked breads, and Georgian drinks.
